Summary
I approach building systems the way I used to construct photographs: with an eye for detail, a craft with composition, and a tendency toward making the complex feel inevitable.
After studying photography I started out as a retoucher, then spent a over a decade working in boutique design and development agencies — shaping websites and interactive experiences for Nike, Prada, Vogue, Mini and a run of independent studios, artists and agencies.
Somewhere along the way the interesting problems moved from the interface to what's underneath it, and I followed them: databases, edge infrastructure, and the systems that make a product actually hold together at scale.
Today I work as a strategy-first systems architect and full-stack consultant, based in Lisbon and working with teams across the US and Europe. I'm equally at home in a whiteboard conversation about product direction and business model as I am designing a local-first, multi-tenant database architecture or shipping a production edge API. Good architecture, like good design, should feel obvious once it exists — most of the work is getting there.
Recent focus: local-first / multi-tenant SaaS architecture, edge computing (Cloudflare Workers), SvelteKit and React Native product builds, database design (Turso, Drizzle ORM, SQLite) with vector indexes, payments (Stripe) and analytics (PostHog) — mostly for early-stage startups figuring out their first real scale.
I'm casually exploring CTO, founding engineer, or fractional/technical co-founder roles — ideally with a team that wants rigorous systems thinking and someone who can still speak the language of brand, product and story.
Outside of work: surfing, tennis, sailing, keeping an old Vespa running, generally happiest when I'm learning something new.

- Delivered digital experiences for global brands including Nike, Prada, Vogue, Mini and Venice Biennale — spanning creative direction through to production engineering.
- Shifted focus in recent years to full-stack product and infrastructure work: SvelteKit and React Native applications, edge computing (Cloudflare Workers), and database architecture (Turso, Drizzle ORM, SQLite) for early-stage startups.
- Currently consulting as full-stack engineer and systems architect on a local-first, multi-tenant SaaS platform, including founding-team technical strategy.
- Built and maintain Fokus CMS, an open-source headless CMS with a custom content API and asset management service, in continuous use since 2014.

Selected projects
- Venice Biennale: Spatial IntelligensMar 2025 – May 2025
Spatial Intelligens is the mobile companion app for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition at the Corderie dell'Arsenale (curated by Carlo Ratti, designed by sub under Niklas Bildstein Zaar).
The app uses computer vision to recognize what a visitor is looking at from a single photo, resolve their position in the space, and map it to the exhibition's curatorial framework. From there, users enter a dialogue with a conversational AI trained on the full depth of the exhibition content.
Beyond content delivery, the system constructs a live, spatially aware model of each visit—tracking project encounters, movement patterns, and thematic affinities. This enables visitors to see how their pathway overlaps with, diverges from, or uniquely expresses itself relative to the anonymized pathways of previous visitors, effectively turning the act of visiting into a fourth layer of intelligence alongside the exhibition's three curatorial frames: Natural, Artificial, and Collective.
As lead developer I was initially tasked with researching solutions and vendors to help meet the aims of the project — such as improving indoor location accuracy for the interactive map. I also created the specs and scope for the technical build for both frontend and backend development. I was responsible for setting up services such as auth, CI/CD, and logging/monitoring which included a feedback loop of user behaviour used as additional context for the LLM.
- MOODSAug 2025 – Jun 2026
MOODS is a creative tool for self-inquiry. The app provides a framework to help explore and make sense of your inner world. It does this primarily through a chat interface that exposes a number of characters, the Archetypes. Each archetype is finely tuned to analyse and shed insight on a different aspect of the self. It draws on the deep well of human meaning-making — dreams and myths, symbols and shadows, the sacred and the strange — not to explain you, but to help you meet yourself.
Being part of a small team with limited funding, my role featured a variety of responsibilities — involvement in the early technical planning and scoping, bringing in talent from my network to fulfil roles, helping shape the founder's vision and mapping this to a logical framework, consulting on UX and visual design, full-stack development of the cross-platform app and supporting infrastructure, strategic planning of the MVP launch, supporting growth to $30k MRR within the first 3 months.
